I was on my way to a meeting in Santa Monica today, and happened to walk by one of my favorite pieces of devotional Art Deco, Our Lady of the Seas in Palisade Park.
Some people cross themselves as they pass; I reflexively reach for the iPhone.

As for Jesus, it appears the artist had his mama pose, in her flowered sleeveless house dress. All that’s missing are the big patch pockets on the front bulging with a polishing rag and a pair of scissors and of course, her bra exposed due to the sagging arm-holes.
