Teddy Pendergrass
Born: March 26, 1950. Died: January 13, 2010.
Teddy was the lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and went on to a successful solo career throughout the late ’70′s and early ’80′s, even after an auto accident that left him paralyized in 1982.
Here he is singing his biggest solo hit, ““, in a live performance from 1979.

So Pat Robertson’s still here. Rush Limbaugh — still up and walking about. But we lose this guy.

Amen and bless your heart, Bill. My last radio gig, if you can even call that a “job,” was as the board-op monkey for an “urban oldies” station on no-live-mic syndicated crap. But oh, what I learned about soul music. I’d always loved Teddy and Barry and Luther, grew up on the “oldies”/classics, but oh, what I learned!

Teddy was one sexy, truly gifted motherfucker, and his foundation to help paraplegics and quadriplegics does so much good work — he wasn’t just a pretty-boy stud, he had a heart as big as his voice and a sharp mind to steer that huge open heart in all the right directions.

And a big fat DOUBLE ayyy-mennn!!! to the concept that we lose the best too fast and yet DARTH CHENEY CONTINUES TO STALK THE EARTH. Motherfucker was M.I.A. for EIGHT FUCKING YEARS “IN OFFICE”, but NOW, oh, NOWWWWW, he’s EVERYBODY’S FAVORITE FUCKING “PUNDIT”!!!!!!

Jim Henson & Sammy Davis Jr. died on the same day, 1989, I believe, right about the time that Darth Cheney was reaching up Poppy Bush’s big, flagging asshole, all the way up to the shoulder. YEAH, *THAT’S* FAIR!!!!!!

I cried all the way home from college that day, especially considering that 8 years prior, I was yanked with the ULTIMATE fuck-over — we were pulled off of the elementary-school bus to be told that Ronnie Ray-Gun had been SHOT (we don’t need to go into my little side-trip into the principal’s office for doing the Wicked Vindictive Monkey-Love Dance Of Righteous Retribution upon receiving said announcement), and then I get home, off the bus, walk that long gravel road to the house, and turn on the news, to find out THAT THE FUCKER *LIVED*!!!!!!

There is no justice in the universe. Michael fucking Jackson is the center of the fucking universe, and the fickle fucktards of fate treat Teddy Pendergrass like a leftover.

Not quite. It’s all Clear Channel now, but back then, fuck, it’s changed hands so many times, I can’t even remember which corporation owned it when I was there. Started out as, I shit you not, “EZ Communications,” lost their asses after buying-out my first station (fuck you very much Bill Clinton) and turning it into THE worst consultant-created clusterfuck of a format, “Seventies Gold,” and gee, why didn’t that sell ad time?

Please tell me that you didn’t work upstate “country”…
